Dawg Pound Bags Review

Today, we’re reviewing biodegradable dog waste bags from Dawg Pound Bags. You can find the Dawg Pound at http://www.dawgpoundbags.com along with a full FAQ and explanation of their services and products.

Each year, Americans throw away around 100 million (that’s 100,000,000!) plastic bags. As we know, these end up in our landfills and oceans (and on roadsides and in parks, etc) where they take at least 1,000 years to biodegrade. Choosing reusable grocery bags is one easy way to help combat this overflow of plastic, but reusable dog waste bags just simply aren’t as feasible. The folks at Dawg Pound Bags have given us a great option, however: biodegradable waste bags that help to keep our communities and environment clean, while donating to a great cause along the way.

The first thing we noticed when we received our bags from Dawg Pound was their size. They will arrive in a roll that’s perfectly pocked-sized so you’ll no longer need to worry about shoving bulky plastic bags into your pocket before your daily walk or jog. Each pocket-sized roll contains 20 individual bags. Given the roll’s tiny size, we were worried that the bags might be too thin or too small to get the dirty job done, but we were pleasantly proven wrong!

The bags are separated with a perforated edge that’s easy to tear by hand. The individual bags are a nice blue color and the plastic has a good feel to it. It’s slightly thicker than your run-of-the-mill plastic grocery bag and because it’s on a strong roll, there’s no chance of accidental tearing or tugging. Even though the roll is small, the bags are perfectly sized, They’re not too small to wrap around your hand and they’re big enough to handle any cleanup job.

We tested their strength by tearing off one of the bags at the roll’s edge, shaking it to open it a bit, and then filling it over halfway with water. We squeezed and shook the bag without even the slightest hint of a leak, but were most impressed by the physical strength of the bag. Neither while filling the bag nor while shaking and squeezing it did the plastic stretch or buckle whatsoever. Hopefully, you’ll never have to use these bags for the same amount of volume we tested them with, but if the need ever arises, you won’t have to worry about the bag underperforming on you.

One unexpected feature that really impressed us was the inner roll these bags are wrapped around. Rather than thin cardboard or paperboard, the folks at Dawg Pound have used a thicker plastic roll. This means that the roll of bags won’t be crushed in your pocket or glove compartment, plus best of all, you’ll be able to loop a string through it and hang it right next to your dog’s leashes or harnesses. Say goodbye to those dreaded forgetful days and scrambling around trying to find something to help you cleanup an unexpected mess!

The only thing we’d like to see that these bags don’t offer is graduated tabs for tying. The top of the bag is flush, so you’ll need to twist it around and tie a knot. This isn’t a problem, but we think it would be much easier if the top had two tabs to help make that knot-tying a bit easier.

Best of all, Dawg Pound Bags donates fully 30% of their profits to Barks of Love Animal Rescue in Orange County, California, a “501(c)3 foster-based animal rescue that is dedicated to saving dogs from high-kill shelters.” Be sure to read the heartwarming story that started it all at this link: http://www.dawgpoundbags.com/about.

Overall, we love the size, strength, ease-of-use, and design of these great biodegradable bags and we think you will too!
